As technology continues to expand access to clinical supervision, counselors and supervisors must be prepared to navigate the unique ethical, legal, technological, and relational considerations associated with telesupervision. This course provides an overview of essential best practices for providing effective clinical supervision through distance-based platforms.
Participants will explore ethical and licensure considerations when supervisors and supervisees practice across jurisdictions, technology selection and HIPAA compliance, informed consent, emergency and backup communication procedures, and strategies for maintaining professional presence and meaningful communication in a virtual environment. The course also addresses evaluation and accountability in distance supervision, considerations related to time zones and cultural differences, and the potential for telesupervision to increase access to qualified supervisors in rural and underserved communities.
